WIT Students’ Union Present €34,100 to RAG Week Charities

After a hugely successful R.A.G. Week the chosen charities were presented with €8,525

WIT Students’ Union were delighted to present a cheque of €34,100 today the 9th of May to
the three chosen RAG week charities; Waterford Marine Search and Rescue, Focus Ireland,
the Peter McVerry Trust and the chosen college project of the WITSU Social fund.
Each charity received €8,525 of the record breaking total amount. Michael Murphy, WIT
Students’ Union President said “ We are delighted to have both provided our students with
quality and safe entertainment whilst also raising this record breaking figure for three very
deserving charities and one college project as voted upon by our class rep system. I would
like to extend thanks to our entire team including all volunteers that essentially made all of
our fundraising possible. Student contribution to our local and national society is something
that WITSU has and will continue to focus on.”

Waterford Marine Search and Rescue who were also delighted with the donation said, “The funds will
be used to purchase new equipment which will enable us to continue to train new volunteers
and continue to operate our suicide patrols at the weekends along with providing a 24/7
Search, Rescue and recovery service to the people of Waterford City. With our new
headquarters just about finished, we now have the facilities to allow us offer further training
and upskilling to our volunteers ensuring they are all trained to the highest standards.”
Nominations for charities opened back in July and were voted on in Class Rep Council in
October to choose the winning three charities and the winning college project.
