Record-Breaking Amount Raised For Charities By WIT Students

WIT Students’ Union (WITSU) are delighted with fundraising efforts by students and staff at WIT during the course of this academic year particularly during Raise and Give Week. The week took place from February 13th – 16th and featured a number of day and night-time events for students to attend.

Last year, €17,000 was raised. WITSU are very happy to announce that, this year, a record-breaking €24,000 has been raised! The charities nominated by and voted on by students to receive a share of the €24,000 are:

Edmund Rice Summer Camps

Make-A-Wish

South East Simon Community

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

A number of students and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout Raise and Give Week. There were a number of day-time events on campus including pool and dart tournaments, quizzes, a burrito eating contest, and a bake sale. The Dome featured live music each day, and each night saw huge performances at Student Project Waterford including Teddy Cream, Tom Zanetti, Jax Jones, and 5ive.

WITSU have worked with local and national charities throughout the year and are very pleased to give back and donate these funds to some very worthy causes. Michelle Byrne, WITSU President, is overjoyed at the huge amount raised. “We are absolutely delighted to be able to positively impact these charities and the work they do both locally and nationally. A lot of time and effort went into the planning and running of these fundraising activities. Our efforts most certainly paid off for the charities and the student had lots of fun attending the events and activities. It is a win win!”

WITSU would like to give special thanks to their partnered nightclub, Student Project Waterford, The Dome Bar and WIT Campus Services for their donations and assistance with fundraising activities. WITSU would also like to acknowledge the work of the “RAG Crew” and Edmund Rice Summer Camp volunteers who helped out throughout Raise and Give Week. A final thank you must be given to all WIT students and staff who donated generously throughout the week.
