Celine Casey

Hey everyone,

My name is Celine Casey and I have been elected as your Welfare Officer in the Student’s Union for the coming year 2017/2018. I am 21 years old and I am from Waterford. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and I want to be a friendly face for you for the coming year. If you are an incoming first year or an international student studying at WIT for the first time I would firstly like to welcome you and wish you all the best. For all the returning students I would like to welcome you back and I hope you are all looking forward to the year ahead as much as I am.  I hope to make your time here in WIT the best it could possibly be.

As your Welfare Officer I will be here for every single student for all non-academic matters. Throughout the year with the help of the welfare crew I will run campaigns and workshops in relation to a variety of topics, for example; Positive mental health, Positive Body image, Sexual health, Bullying awareness, Drug awareness, Equality and many more. I will also do my very best to ensure that every student in WIT is included in each campaign. Campaigns are not only to raise awareness but also to create a positive, friendly environment to have fun and make friends.

I would hope that every student sees me as an open, approachable and friendly person that will always be here for a chat no matter what’s on your mind. In the Student’s Union we have an open door policy and I would love if you would take advantage of this and call over whether it be a big or small issue or even if you just feel like a chat! My objective is to make you feel as comfortable and happy as possible while here in WIT.

Initially college life may seem difficult and yes of course it can be a daunting and challenging experience but in my opinion it is the experience of a lifetime. You are guaranteed to meet some amazing new people. I would really encourage all of you to get involved from the start no matter whether that’s being a class rep, helping out as part of the Welfare crew or joining a club or society. But most importantly mind yourself and have as much fun as possible.

So just remember I am always here no matter what. I am so looking forward to the year ahead. See you all very soon!

Celine Casey.
